Finding the leak, not guessing
A pool that drops an inch a day is losing hundreds of gallons. The work is finding out where, before anything gets torn up.
Where pools leak
There are only a few honest answers. The liner itself, usually at a fitting, a step, a corner or an old patch. The skimmer, where the plastic throat separates from the wall or the faceplate gasket has gone hard. The light niche and its conduit. The plumbing under the deck or in the yard, which is the expensive one. Or none of the above, and the pool is just evaporating faster than the owner expects in August.
Ruling out evaporation first is free and takes a day: a bucket on the step, filled to the pool line, and the two levels compared after twenty four hours. If the bucket drops the same, the pool is fine. If the pool drops more, there is a leak and it is worth finding.

Why winter causes so many of them
A big share of the leaks found in central Ohio in May were made the previous January. Water that did not get blown out of a return line freezes and splits the pipe, or cracks a fitting at the wall. Nothing shows until the system is under pressure again.
The same freeze and thaw cycle moves decks and coping, which pulls on skimmer throats. Ohio ground does not sit still, and a pool built forty years ago has been through it forty times.

Fox Pools sent Cameron and Shea out to look at damage to PVC caused in the winter and to help us make the switch to Salt system. Do the bucket test. A bucket on the top step filled to match the pool line, no swimming for a day. If the pool loses more than the bucket, call us.
Only if the leak is genuinely in the buried plumbing, and only once it has been located. Most leaks we find are at the skimmer, a fitting or the liner and never touch the concrete.
Often, yes, including underwater. A liner that is old and brittle everywhere is a different conversation, and we will tell you which one you have.
That points at the pressure side, the returns. If it only drops with the pump off, that points at the suction side. Either way it narrows the search a lot.
We photograph the roof and show you. If leak detection and repair is not what the roof needs, we say so and quote the work it does need.
